Bryant Creek

This video is my favorite of any fishing video, this is what it’s all about!

Bryant Creek runs a path through the Mark Twain National Forest. Services are provided from Hodgsons Mill to Tecumseh, where Bryant Creek and the North Fork of the White converge. Areas above Hodgsons Mill are floatable in the spring and after a good rain, but no outfitters service this area.

Many might be familiar with the name Hodgsons Mill, as its grain products are still sold today. The operations moved to nearby Gainesville in the 1970s to accommodate an expanding business. The mill was restored in 2001 and now serves as a tourist attraction with an operating general store. The spring that powered Hodgsons Mill runs beneath the structure, disappears, and reappears in a deep, blue pool that empties into Bryant Creek, making the stretch below the mill floatable year-round.

With pristine clarity, Bryant Creek offers more than twenty-three miles of untamed waters to float. River otters can be seen frequenting many stretches along the creek. Bryant is known for it’s bass population and offers good catfishing as well.

The upper Bryant offers perhaps better fishing, but the lower stretches can be good as well. Several types of fish await, including smallmouth, goggle eye, and bluegill. It’s possible to catch a stray trout that has traveled from the Rainbow Trout and Game Ranch located at Rockbridge or from the North Fork of the White, which has wild trout.
